St Helens Cemetery

Cemetery

Established in 1858, St Helens Cemetery is a historic 20-acre site and place of remembrance for generations of local families. Its distinctive heart-shaped design, created by Thomas Denville Barry and landscaped by Edward Kemp, helped secure its Grade II listed status. The cemetery offers a range of burial and cremation memorial options, including a Memorial Garden and Children's Section, and features a self-guided heritage trail celebrating the lives of notable local people. Recognised for its high standards of care, it received a Gold Award in the 2025/26 National Cemetery of the Year Awards and holds Gold status in the ICCM Charter for the Bereaved.

Newton-le-Willows Cemetery

Established in 1885, Newton-le-Willows Cemetery is an attractive eight-acre cemetery with historic Gothic-style monuments, landscaped grounds and a central chapel that houses the Book of Remembrance. It offers lawned burial graves, dedicated cremation graves and a peaceful Memorial Garden. Supported by the Friends of Newton-le-Willows Cemetery volunteer group, the site also features a special memorial space with a dry riverbed and ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box, providing a unique place for reflection and remembrance.

St Helens Crematorium

Opened in 1962, St Helens Crematorium provides a peaceful and welcoming setting for families to remember loved ones. Located within the grounds of St Helens Cemetery, it features distinctive stained glass windows, tranquil memorial gardens and beautifully maintained surroundings, offering a dignified space for services, reflection and remembrance.

The Chapel of Remembrance at St Helens Crematorium and Newton-le-Willows Cemetery offers a peaceful space for reflection and remembrance. Home to the Books of Remembrance, which contain permanent memorial inscriptions, the chapel welcomes visitors throughout the year to remember loved ones and spend time in quiet contemplation.
