Arranging a Burial

Burial

If you are arranging a burial in St Helens, you will usually need to appoint a Funeral Director. They can guide you through the process, help make arrangements as straightforward as possible and liaise directly with St Helens Borough Council's Bereavement Services team on your behalf. You will need to decide whether the burial will take place in an existing family grave or whether a new grave plot needs to be purchased. If you do not already own a grave, the Bereavement Services team can help you choose and purchase a suitable plot. For burials taking place at St Helens Cemetery, it may also be possible to hold the funeral service in the crematorium chapel. In some circumstances, families may choose to arrange a funeral themselves without using a Funeral Director. Further advice and guidance on self-arranged funerals is available from the Bereavement Services team.
